Happy new year! We hope that everyone had a great Christmas break.

Mrs Sleath will be teaching the class every Monday, Mrs Willis will teach the class for the rest of the week. The class will be supported by Mrs Chapman, Mrs Davis and Miss Nikiforou in the mornings. Miss Easton is joining us for the afternoon sessions.

As you are aware, the format for spelling homework has changed a little. The spellings will still be given out on a Monday, please could your child return their spelling book to school on either the next Friday or Monday. If you need another copy of the letter that was given out about the new spelling format, please ask Mrs Sleath.

Maths or topic homework will be given out as required. This will be given out on Fridays, to be returned by the following Thursday.

We are re-launching the testing of times tables this term. The times- tables/addition facts that your child needs to learn are highlighted in the front of their reading record book.

Please hear your child read as regularly as possible, as this enables them to progress towards reaching their full potential in both reading and writing. Each time you hear your children read, please note where they have read to, and sign, together with any comments that you wish to make.

As much as possible, children will be given the opportunity to change their books every day, we like to hear them discuss what they have read. A book can be changed once it is signed off as having been finished (Tuesday-Friday).

We are continuing with writing in a cursive style. It is vital that your child forms their letters correctly to enable them to join their writing correctly. We encourage the children to hold their pencil in a conventional style, using a plastic grip if required. Formal handwriting lessons take place in small groups each week. If you would like another copy of the letter formation sheet, please ask Mrs Willis, or pop a note in the reading record.

PE will take place on Thursday and Friday, but we may need PE kits at other times during the week. We do still go outside during this term, when the weather allows, therefore all children will need joggers, sweatshirt and especially socks.
REMEMBER-we are participating in the daily mile, so trainers will be needed in school every day.

If you would like to look at the areas of the curriculum that we will be covering this term, please see our curriculum web.

We thank you in advance for your support this coming year. If you have any concerns, please do pop in to speak to one of us, at the end of school preferably.

Many thanks
The Beech class team.
